COOLANGATTA GOLD BY TONY HARRINGTON

LOCATION: GREENMOUNT

DATE: MAY, 2005

It’s rare to see an unridden wave on a day of perfect point surf in Coolangatta. It’s even rarer to see a water shot of an unridden wave at Greenmount. The volume of water moving around, the large area of the lineup, the oppressive crowds and relentless sweep can make it a water photographer’s nightmare. But every so often, a skilled photographer with plenty of stamina and a pair of swim fins can capture the true magic of the sublime realm that exists beyond the breakers.

Tony Harrington divides his time between the Gold Coast, Hawaii, the ski fields of Mount Buller in Victoria, Jackson Hole in the US and heli-skiing in Alaska.

If you are peering out from Coolangatta beach and wondering what a classic day at Greenmount looks like from out in the water, wonder no more. This is the reason hundreds of surfers paddle out to the Coolangatta points on a classic day, because one wave like this can make your whole week.
