Beatriz Ryder Photographer

Beatriz Ryder, also known as Be Ryder, is a Portuguese-born, self-taught photographer renowned for her evocative surf and ocean imagery. Originally from Lisbon, she relocated to the East Coast of Australia in 2019, immersing herself in the vibrant surf culture and natural beauty of the region.

With a particular wonder for surf photography, she spends most of her time getting inspired by the wilderness of the ocean. Be approaches photography with the goal of capturing the raw and dynamic nature of surfing, focusing on the emotion behind each moment. Her work is driven by a desire to create a sense of connection between the viewer, the subject, and the ocean itself.

Although her early years weren’t shaped by the ocean, photography was always in her life. Her father, a former photographer, nurtured her creative eye and passed down his knowledge. What began as a curiosity quickly evolved into a passion, and eventually, a lifelong pursuit. Drawn to the rhythm and rawness of the ocean, Be picked up a camera and began teaching herself to capture the energy of the surf and the stories unfolding around it.
Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of falling in love with something later in life and chasing it with everything you’ve got.

Be’s work has garnered international acclaim, with her photos featured in major publications and events. She works as an official photographer for the World Surf League (WSL), capturing pivotal moments in the World Tour competitions, and for prestigious events like the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Be is also a proud ambassador for Abysse, a sustainable wetsuit and swimwear brand created by women for women.”
