19 year old Gudjingburra artist, Birren, launched his debut single ‘Greenshack’ on 3 November 2023.

“The song is metaphorically about my friends and I searching for the perfect wave”, says Birren.

The release comes off the back of completing an artist residency with Gold Coast venue, Miami Marketta, where Birren first cut his teeth as a performing artist in
2021.
“After surfing with my friends and family in my coastal backyard, this inspired me to write ‘Greenshack’” said Birren of his new single.
Inspired by his childhood growing up surfing, fishing and playing music with his family at home at Booningbah (Fingal Head) in Northern NSW, Birren’s ocean-
inspired rhythms, soothing voice and rootsy sounds take his audience on a journey of discovery and reflection, allowing plenty of time to dance and enjoy the groove.
As a child he was surrounded by a family of musicians. Birren’s first instrument was a ukulele and by the age of 5 you would find him banging away in the shed on the drum
kit. Birren soon found himself jammin’ with his family, singing songs from all eras and genres.
“From a young age I listened to the greats like Otis Redding, Sam Cook, Toots and Maytals and Bob Marley. As I grew older I found new sounds like Amos Lee, Allen Stone, H.E.R, Teskey Brothers, Six60 and L.A.B” said Birren.
Fresh out of the studio, Birren is set to share his music with the world. Birren performed to a large crowd on the big stage at St Kilda Festival in February 2024 and, now, Flotsam Festival in May 2024.
