Over the past 25 years Dave has built a solid reputation as a highly skilled film-maker, producer and editor.
From humble beginnings as creator of surf TV shows for public access TV in San Diego, Dave was soon recruited as principal DOP for Taylor Steele’s Poor Specimen, one of the world’s largest and most prolific surf film producers. As Director of Cinematography, Dave travelled the globe compiling footage for dozens of award-winning surf blockbusters: Loose Change, Hit And Run, Transmission, Momentum: Under The Influence, Campaign 2, Stranger Than Fiction, Drive Thru Australia, Drive Thru Europe, Trilogy and more.During his eight year tenure at Poor Specimen, Dave curated content from the world’s most prominent surf film makers, sourcing clips for movies that would define the genre in the ‘00’s. Traversing international surf competitive events and movie launches meant frequenting surf hotspots like the Gold Coast several times annually, and it was during tenure on the Gold Coast that he met his wife and future home. Leaving Poor Specimen in 2005 to relocate, Dave helped set up Soul Arch Media to film for international-level sporting webcasts and brands like Globe, Billabong, and Reef, as well as creating broadcast content for media houses including Discovery Channel (North America), TV One (New Zealand), Maori TV (New Zealand), FuelTV (Australia and USA), Fox Sports (Australia and USA) and many more.
In the local event realm, Dave’s filming handiwork has helped document events like the Rugby Sevens, Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Cooly Rocks On, Byron Bluesfest, Bleach Festival, and donating time to film local initiatives like SAND fundraisers and Disabled Surf Association meet-ups.
