Being a native to Nazare, he grew up witnessing the extraordinary beauty of Praia do Norte and began capturing images along Portugal’s silver coast. He’s been attracted to the ocean since a very young age and once he started surfing he got obsessed with waves. Nowadays his goal is to create images that carry emotion and make people want to be near the sea.

Helio is the winner of the first edition of Praia do Norte Photography Awards. He’s worked with world renowned brands like National Geographic, Esquire, HBO, Red Bull, Monster Energy, Porsche and Mercedes Benz.

He has collaborated with some of the most prominent surf media like Stab, Tracks Magazine, Surfer’s Journal and Carve Magazine and he’s a regular contributor to Surfline.

Helio is a co-author of the book Salitre, the only printed surf publication in Portugal, currently on its third volume.
