Sarah Lee Photographer

Sarah is a photographer from Hawaiʻi, working across surf, lifestyle, and fashion.

Sarah Lee is a photographer from Hawaiʻi, working across surf, lifestyle, and fashion. She grew up in the water. Competitive swimming and long-distance ocean racing shaped how she moves and sees. She began photographing in the ocean in 2006, building her practice from within the lineup.

Her work is grounded in place. She shoots in and around the water, often in motion, using natural light and real conditions. Wind, tide, and light set the pace. She follows what is already happening. She was the first female photographer to have a cover image selected for The Surfer’s Journal (Issue 27.2), with a photograph of Waikīkī longboarder Arthur “Toots” Anchinges.

She is drawn to the space around surfing as much as the act itself. The time between sets. The moments before and after. Her images hold a sense of stillness, even in moving water.
