The pioneer of surfing photography in France, Sylvain grew up in Tchad - Africa for the the first few years of his life.
In the early 60’s his family moved to Biarritz where he jumped in the ocean right away. His love for the ocean and its waves took him to surfing. Very quickly he became part of the Biarritz Surf Club, and under the wing of Jo Moraiz became a
part of the French surfing team. International competitions took him to the far shores of the world
Sylvain found an interest in Photography in the mid sixties while in Tahiti. This prompted him to live according to the rhythm of the oceans, looking for the best waves. His search for the
ultimate wave took him and his Nikon camera bodies and lenses as far as Australia, California, Fiji, New Zealand and of course Hawaii.
Since 1990 Sylvain is an Honorary member of Surfrider Foundation, as he felt early in his life the need to protect the ocean from pollution.
His surfing and windsurfing pictures have been published by the main mags in the world such as Paris Match, VSD, Geo, Surfer Mag, Surf Session, Le Figaro Magazine, Madame Figaro, Vogue, Elle, L’Equipe, Sports Illustrated, Surfer Journal ….. and by surfing companies such as Quiksilver, Oxbow, Roxy, Rip Curl, Bic Sport, and Neil Pryde.
