MISSING

Released in 2003, Taylor Steele’s Missing put World Champion Mick Fanning in some of the most radical places on the planet alongside his good friends John John Florence, Jordy Smith, Matt Wilkinson, and Tom Curren. Under the direction of the world-renowned film-maker, the project took Mick Fanning out of the competition world, gave him a boarding pass with a blank destination and for 21 days he is relocated all over the world with only a passport, suitcase and surfboard at his disposal. As a result, the surfing is special, raw. From Africa and Ireland to Central America and Spain, the experience literally was life changing for Mick Fanning.

Sit back as Taylor Steele, celebrated surf photographer Ted Grambeau and guests recount the making of the movie.

TRILOGY NEW WAVE

Three elite surfers travel to eight remote destinations searching for pristine waves and an escape from the pressures of competition. Trilogy: New Wave is a documentary that follows Ethan Ewing, Griffin Colapinto, and Seth Moniz as they balance their demanding careers with lifelong friendship and a desire to rediscover the joy of surfing, free from contest scores.

More than a decade has passed since Taylor Steele’s original Trilogy (2007) was released. Since then, surfing has transitioned from counter cultural pastime to mainstream sport. Trilogy: New Wave examines this evolution with a new lens, offering an unexpected perspective of surfing’s present.Exploring their personal histories, motivations, and individual philosophies, Trilogy: New Wave charts three character studies against the backdrop of high performance, high action surfing.

Ethan, Griffin, and Seth battle in heats with the world’s best while trying to maintain their love for the sport they dedicated their lives to pursuing.

VINICIUS

Australian Premiere: Vinicius follows the untold story of Brazilian big wave surfer, Vini dos Santos, who surfed a 97-foot wave in Nazaré in 2022. From the shores of Brazil to the giant waves of Portugal, Vini recounts his surfing journey, the challenges, the injuries and the accomplishments that all lead up to the moment he would catch the biggest wave of his life.

NOAH: THE ART OF SURFING

NOAH: The Art of Surfing, starring and directed by Noah Beschen and shot by Andy Woodward, has an artful approach – true to its title. The opening begins with a kaleidoscopic montage of brightly color-corrected silhouettes of Noah in and out of water. From there we find ourselves in Western Australia and Tahiti, before returning home to the North Shore. Woodward’s impressionistic touches remain throughout, all bolstered by a thumping soundtrack. The entire 23-minute experience alternates between dreamlike and viscerally real.

Plus panels, live music from surfer/artist Jamie Kasdaglis’s James Street Preachers and more.
