Expanding on last year’s  event, Media + Makers returns as a showcase and forum celebrating creativity across film, photography, media and surf art. As part of the Flotsam Block Party on Thursday May 1, this free night at the Coolangatta Sands Hotel is a full-tilt celebration of surf culture. Join a crew of indie journos, artists and storytellers for an evening of fresh ideas, unexpected inspo, and good vibes – plus live recordings of two epic surf podcasts that’ll have you laughing, nodding, and waxing nostalgic.

Your Town is a live podcast series from the creators of We Shouldn’t Be Friends, diving into the rich history of Australia’s iconic surf towns. In each episode, hosts Hannah and Nick hit the road to visit a different town, sitting down with a panel of local surfers who help bring its unique story to life. Through candid conversations and shared memories, the series aims to celebrate community, preserve local surf culture, and pass down the stoke from one generation to the next.

In this opening episode, recorded live on the night, Nick and Hannah head to the land of right-hand point breaks — the southern Gold Coast. Home to one of Australia’s most surfed stretches of coastline, Coolie has a rich and complex surf history. But at the heart of it all, the ultimate driver of Coolie surf culture? Sand. Nick and Hannah dive into Coolangatta’s shifting sands — literally — and explore how over decades, this ever-changing force has shaped the waves, the culture, and the community.
