Above / Below (FREE Exhibition)
Two worlds. One coastline. Above / Below is a visual exploration of the Gold Coast rarely seen, capturing the energy of the surface and the hidden complexity beneath the waves. This group exhibition brings together a collective of the region’s leading surf and underwater photographers, revealing a coastline that exists in constant motion between air and sea.
Above the waves, striking surf imagery capturing the Gold Coast’s infamous shoreline. Below the surface, a quieter world unfolds: reefs, marine life, and shifting underwater landscapes that define the coast just as much as the breaks above.
Imagery encircling Gold Coast waters, from Byron Bay to Moreton including the iconic Kirra Reef and the sculptural depths of Wonder Reef, Above / Below shines a light on the full spectrum of this unique coastal environment and the artists who document it.
Running from April 22 -May 5, the exhibition invites you to move between two perspectives, Gold Coast as a surf destination and as a layered, living ecosystem.
Join us at the exhibition on May 3 during Media + Makers for a series of relaxed Above/Below Artist Meet & Greets, offering a chance to connect with the photographers behind the work and hear the stories beneath the surface. Local, immersive and deeply connected to place, Above / Below is a reminder that what we see from the shore is only half the story.
